Application of iron-based magnetic nanoparticles stabilized with triethanolammonium oleate for theranostics

Abstract The novel iron-oxide nanoparticles (NPs) stabilized with triethanolammonium oleate were produced. specimens divided into two groups: the top NPs (extracted from supernatant) and bottom (nanoparticles sedimented at of flask during centrifugation), respectively. XRD Mössbauer studies revealed a presence Fe 3 O 4 phase in both types nanoparticles. Furthermore, formation maghemite layer on surface was observed. Average particle sizes determined TEM lower than superparamagnetic limit for magnetite NPs. For glycerol dispersions NPs, when exposed to 100 kHz external magnetic field, significant heat release contrasts T 1 - 2 -weighted MR images significantly dependent concentration their water solutions. Additionally, reductions relaxation times different viability colon cancer cells have shown low cytotoxicity due coating oleate, which confirm possibility apply MRI-guided hyperthermia.
